4. STEVE NASH: Stephen John Nash was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, to a Welsh mother, Jean, and English father, John, on 7 February 1974. He was a Canadian former professional basketball player who played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA).We cannot talk about South African celebrities without mentioning Steve Nash.
Nash was twice named the NBA Most Valuable Player while playing for the Phoenix Suns. He currently serves as senior advisor of the Canadian men’s national team and as a player development consultant for the Golden State Warriors.
Nash announced his retirement from playing on 21 March 2015. Before the announcement, the Cleveland Cavaliers had said to Nash’s agent that they were interested in him as a backup for Kyrie Irving if Nash asked for a buyout. Her father is Delano Meriwether, the first African-American student at Duke University School of Medicine, while her mother, Nomvimbi Meriwether, is a South African and works as a lawyer. Her parents had been doing volunteer work in South Africa at the time of Meriwether’s birth. She was raised in Potomac, Maryland and graduated from Sidwell Friends School in Bethesda, Maryland. Who else wants to argue whether Nana is a South African or not?
Now few remarkable things about Nana that made people think she is an American are,she is an American philanthropist, former professional volleyball player, and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss USA 2012. 6. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien: JRR Tolkien was born on the 3 January 1892 in in Bloemfontein in the Orange Free State (now Free State Province in South Africa). He was an English writer, poet, philologist, and academic, who authored the classic high fantasy works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion.
The great success of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings led directly to a popular resurgence of the genre and this has caused Tolkien to be popularly identified as the “father” of modern fantasy literature.
Notably the Times ranked him sixth on a list of “The 50 greatest British writers since 1945”. Forbes ranked him the fifth top-earning “dead celebrity” in 2009.
At the age of 16, Tolkien met Edith Mary Bratt, who was three years his senior, when he and his brother Hilary moved into the boarding house where she lived in Duchess Road, Edgbaston. The duo frequently visit a teashop in Birmingham. After sometime, Tolkien’s guardian warned him to stay off Edith until he was 21. She is a South African-American actress who has featured in so many popular American movies including Army of Darkness, Schindler’s List, Matilda, Junebug, Mansfield Park, Bicentennial Man, and Fracture, and the television series Californication and Mad Men.
Davidtz was born in Lafayette, Indiana, while her father was studying chemical engineering at Purdue University. Her parents, John and Jean, later moved to Trenton, New Jersey, and then back to their native South Africa when Davidtz was nine years old. Davidtz has Dutch, English, and French ancestry.

9. ERNIE ELS: Theodore Ernest Els is a South African professional golfer, born born 17 October 1969 Johannesburg, South Africa. A former World No. 1, is known as “The Big Easy” due to his imposing physical stature.
Ernie Elf is a full South African and spent a greater part of his sports career in South Africa. He grew up in Lambton, Germiston, South Africa, he played rugby, cricket, tennis and, golf. Els first achieved popularity in 1984, when he won the Junior World Golf Championship in the Boys 13–14 category.
Els married his wife Liezl in 1998 in Cape Town and they have two children, Samantha and Ben. Among his early achievements are In 1989, Els won the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship and turned professional the same year. Els won his first professional tournament in 1991 on the Southern Africa Tour (today the Sunshine Tour).
He won the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit in the 1991/92 and 1994/95 seasons. In 1993, Els won his first tournament outside of South Africa at the Dunlop Phoenix in Japan. In 1994 Els won his first major championship at the U.S. Open. So much to mention about Els achievements but a few.

Pathetically On 21 June 1991, Theron’s father, an alcoholic, threatened both teenaged Charlize and her mother while drunk, physically attacking her mother and firing a gun at both of them. Richard E Grant is an English actor and script writer. He was born on the 5th May, 1957 in Mbabane, Swaziland. As a boy, Grant went to primary school at St Mark’s, a local government school in Mbabane that only recently had become racially integrated.
One pathetic thing about E Grant was that when Grant was 10, he witnessed his mother commit adultery in the back seat of a car with his father’s best friend, which subsequently led to his parents’ divorce. This event inspired Grant to keep a daily diary, which he has continued to do ever since. Grant used to wear a watch on each wrist, one given to him by his dying father, permanently set on Swaziland time. He is a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and Swaziland.

David John Matthews is a South African-born American singer, songwriter, musician, actor and record label owner, best known as the lead vocalist, songwriter and guitarist for the Dave Matthews Band. Matthews was born in Johannesburg on the January 9, 1967, and moved frequently between South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States while growing up. Matthews started playing acoustic guitar at the age of 9. Mathew’s parents are John and Allie Laurenzo-Matthews
Between 1991 to 2003, Matthews predominantly focused on songwriting and performing with the Dave Matthews Band, which he started in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991.
